Hotel Hoffman's Revolving Doors

After the drain incident, I wasn't quite sure I wanted to continue sharing our little disgusting world. Here's the bottom line: Saw toilet paper outside. Not a good thing. Prompt follow-up with Thames Water District and poor guy with worst job on the planet came out to "fix" everything. Note to self (and any visitors): wipes (flushable or not) may NOT be flushed. Really gross things happen if they are.

Had a lovely couple of visits from the Wards in February (despite the rampant vomiting from nearly everybody!) and my mom and brother at the start of March. What fun to have friends and family from half a world away enter our little bubble for a while. Feels good. Pictures and captions to follow (eventually!)

Kid is so pooped she's honestly sitting at the kitchen table pretending two pieces of broccoli are talking to eachother. Early bedtime tonight. :)

Looking forward to more friends and family visiting in the next three weeks.

Have been sadistically enjoying spraying Raid on any of the sugar ants I happen to see within the house. Gonna get better (and possibly more fanatical) about mopping these floors.

More ramblings from Wimbledon to follow... perhaps about the following images:

Closed to Swimmers

You know what's really gross? Kitchen drains. Ours literally drains through a hole in the wall to the outside into a hole in the ground in the patio. But I shouldn't say "drains". Looks like it's been clogged for a while, and now we get to fix it...unless, of course, I want to see little rivers of rice and whatnots-that-fit-through-the-catch-basin-in-the-sink floating around in the backyard.

So yesterday I purchased a bottle of sulfuric acid at the local hardware store and was told I could pour it into the clog and it would, essentially, burn through anything in it's path. But I forgot about the leaves and dirt and sludge that had been building up in the hole for what may have been ever...the smell of acid burning through grime is beyond terrible. It's nose-numbing. I'm sure I lost brain cells because of it. And, I forgot that the pipe leads DIRECTLY to the sink. Therefore, the smell came straight back up through the pipes into the kitchen, and wafted throughout the house. Went to sleep smelling sulfur and burning sludge. Yummy. To make it even better, the clog is still there. It rained last night and refilled the hole with rainwater, diluting the acid. Bought gloves. I'm going in.

Potty Training

Cassidy peed on me today. Seriously. We were sitting there at the dinner table, she'd finished her share and was on my lap doing a puzzle, while Damian and I had a nice conversation when all of a sudden my leg felt warm.

"Cssidy, are you peeing?"

"Yes."

"It's going ON MY LEG!"

"Oh, sorry, Mom."

"Go to the potty, NOW."

"What?"

"GO TO THE TOILET NOW!"

"Oh, okay."

So gross.

I made a nice meal though. "Meatloaf Muffins" (I've learned that if something is in the shape of a muffin, Child will eat it. Husband tends to look a little bewildered.)

I'll spare you the picture of the peed-on jeans.

Newbie

New to this whole blogging thing, but neighbors Heather and Patty have inspired me to share my world with those who just might care a little bit.

Big news:

1) I've started using recipes and for all who know me, this is a very big deal. Meals have been consistently good for over a week.
2) Cassidy is writing letters of the alphabet. She drew an A, a C, and an S this morning on her chalkboard. Unprompted. Very cool. Who needs preschool?

3) Stuff arrived and the walls are officially decorated. (These walls are new to me, as evidenced by the holes conveniently covered up by some hanging items. Who knew nails could bend like that???) And Damian loves having his chair again. :)
4) We had our first visitor! We welcomed Gabe Doleac to our humble abode last weekend. Such fun for us all.

5) Last, but certainly not least, Damian celebrated the big 33 on Thursday, the 21st. We celebrated by unpacking all the boxes. Fun. Not really. Cassidy and I did make a carrot cake for him--ugliest cake ever, but super tasty!
